Bouncy Castles for children’s parties and corporate events have been popular for many years.
Bouncy castles are actually quite a recent invention with the first inflatable structure designed in 1959 by an American, John Scurlock, who was experimenting with making inflatable covers for tennis courts when he noticed his employees enjoyed jumping on them. Here are some more interesting facts:
- The first inflatable was an open top mattress with no sides, called a “Space Pillow”.
- The record for “Longest marathon on a bouncy castle (team)” is 43 hr 25 min 1 sec, set by Tuggerah Lakes Police team(8 people), in Australia in 2015
- However, there seems to be a ‘disagreement’ between the U.S.A and the U.K about the real inventor of the commercial bouncy castles. In the early 1960’s, some of the University students in the U.K are known to have designed a bouncy castle for a fundraising event.
